Kentucky governor Mark Baker summons Jack Dantzler to a late-night meeting and reveals that he is being blackmailed. Dantzler agrees to identify the blackmailer, unaware that the investigation will expose deep currents of antisemitism and white supremacy. Even after the blackmailer is murdered, the larger danger remains. To help bring a former Nazi to justice, Dantzler infiltrates a white-supremacist group and discovers plans for a bombing whose target is frighteningly close to home.
