EVEN GOATS THESE DAYS MAKE DO

Waynette Pennell was born in Independence, Missouri and grew up in the “show me state.”
Throughout her life she took that state philosophy seriously.

She started writing poetry, after being married and starting a family, and pursued her love of the
art through various writing classes and writing workshops—including the Jesse Stuart Creative
Writing Workshop at Murray State University in Kentucky.

Lee Pennington points out in his forward to her book, “…her brevity and impact (is) similar to
many of the poems of William Carlos Williams.”

Waynette is also a maker of art quilts, and her book shows off her talent in both genres—the first
time this has ever been done.

She says unabashedly, “What a surprise it was to see my poetry take the form of a book. From
the goat taking charge of laughter to love stories that will fill your heart with surprise. Enjoy”
